FMEA-MSR: A closer look to existing case studies

We use some standard examples from VDA 4 product & process FMEA 2012, AIAG & VDA FMEA handbook 2019 and SAE J1739 2021 for showing case studies of the FMEA-MSR. Specifically we consider the following topics:

  • Do we need to analyze all DFMEA failure causes in the FMEA-MSR
  • How does the FMEA-MSR communicate / interact with the underlying DFMEA?
  • How to turn new monitoring / response concepts into “functions” of the product?

Evaluation of the diagnostic coverage for safety-relevant systems in automated drive applications for mobile construction machinery

Harmonizing Functional Safety and FMEA in the professional software tool e1ns

Safety functions in mobile machinery can be integrated into the system FMEA as a higher-level functional ADD-ON to ensure compliance with safety standards. However, for the implementation of the hardware architectures resulting from ISO 13849, guidelines and approaches for the integration of defined safety functions into the standardized structure of the FMEA are missing. In this session, interfaces and synergies between functional safety and FMEA will be highlighted. Possibilities for harmonizing FMEA and functional safety according to ISO 13849 are presented using the professional FMEA software tool from PLATO.
